Films: The Devil's Advocate (1997)

Summary: The legal system is privy to being accused of corruption. And in many cases, they're right about that. But it doesn't get any more corrupt than having the Devil himself running the joint.

History: John Milton, AKA the ruler of Hell himself, doesn't exactly do evil while being the head of his successful NY law firm. He just sets the stage for people to give into their greed and want, hoping that one day, the world will become so full of sinners that it will anger God into taking action. Recently, he's hired a rather amoral lawyer...who happens to be his son. It's his hope that his son mates with one of his demon coworkers so that they may produce the true Antichrist.

Notable Kills: Nothing special.

Final Fate: After finally growing a spine, Milton's son shoots himself, denying his father any victory as the arch-demon screams in rage. However, it is revealed to be a vision, and while it helps the man avoid the main conflict, Milton shows up again to try and tempt him another time...

Powers/Abilities: Invulnerability and manipulation of reality.

Weakness: None, but his plans can be thwarted.

Scariness Factor: 3.5-This may be Satan we're talking about, and he is rather formidable, but Al Pachino is a riot as him. Charismatic, insufferably smug, and pretty much everything you hate about law big heads, he's perfect for the role of the Lord of Darkness. And at least his plans do keep getting foiled.

Trivia: -Milton's name is the exact same as the poet who wrote the iconic story, "Paradise Lost".

-Originally, this film was going to be directed by Joel Schumacher, but his vision failed due to being unable to find a good Satan for it. Then O.J. Simpson's controversial trial happened, and interest in making the film was reignited, with Taylor Hackford as the new director.
